Aladdins Natural Eatery. 641 Monroe Ave., Rochester, NY 14607. 442-5000. 8 Schoen Place, Pittsford, NY 14534. 264-9000.
Dining on the deck of the Aladdins in Pittsford on a warm summer evening is a wonderfully enjoyable experience. The food is enjoyable, the view is pretty, and an after dinner walk along the Erie Canal caps the evening perfectly.
Aladdins is a good place to bring vegetarian friends. They can get their fill of tasty roots and shoots and the rest of the party can enjoy the carnivorous entrees. Almost everything I tried at Aladdins was very good to excellent. My favorite dinner dish is Beef Souvlaki. The amount and quality of the meat varies, but it never drops below a good rating. Most of the time it is excellent. The desserts can sometimes look a little tired and uninspired, but a trip to the dessert case will help you select a good one. They also serve a good cup of coffee.
On warm evenings and on the weekend evenings you may have to wait a while for a table. It's worth it. Ask for a table overlooking the canal. From your table, you will see children feeding ducks and geese, people strolling along the canal path, and boats going by.
The Mediterranean Cuisine. 295 East Ridge Road, Rochester, NY 14621-1322. (Seneca Plaza). 266-0050. Map.
- This restaurant had a padlock on the door and legal notice posted on their window in August 2006.
Sinbads. 719 Park Ave, Rochester, NY 14607. 716-473-5655. Sinbads in the summer is a great sidewalk cafe on Park Ave.
The salads are fresh, well seasoned, and covered with lots of feta cheese. In the winter it is a cozy restaurant without much atmosphere. On warm summer days dining on the patio is a pleasant experience. Even though the outdoor tables are further away from the kitchen, the service is excellent.
