Mamasan's. 309 University Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607. Voice: 262-4580 ( revised 12/04)
Mamasans has pan Asian menu. You can find Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, and original items on their menu. The results are unexpectedly good most of the time. We have had fried spring rolls at Mamasan's that were far from fresh. They tasted as though they had been cooked hours before our arrival and reheated for serving. On other occasions, they were fresh and wonderful. Their fresh shrimp spring rolls are good, but not perfect.
What we like most about Mamasan's is that everything we've ordered tasted unique and interesting. We never feel rushed at Mamasan's. Their service is a little slow at times, because of a slow kitchen, but that makes a leisurely dinner all that more leisurely. We liked the pitchers of ice water on every table.
Mamasan's excels in good service, friendly hosts, unrushed atmosphere, and they don't hassle customers who order a single dish to share. Lastly, they don't pester customers about how much to tip. They make customers feel welcome.
Mamasan's Noodle Cabooble. 2800 Monroe Ave, Rochester, NY 14618. Voice: 585-461-3290.
Beautifully contemporary stylish best describes the decor of Mamasan's Noodle Cabooble. The hosts and wait staff have the same friendly welcoming demeanor as Mamasan's on University Avenue. The menu has a wide selection of Pan Asian foods and it is hard to go wrong picking an entrée at random. During busy dinner hours, the kitchen can be slow and the wait staff a little over taxed, so plan on a leisurely meal and enjoy the time with family or friends.
