Maternal Metaphors Artist Roundtable
Rochester Contemporary (RoCo) hosts “Maternal Metaphors: Artists/Mothers/Artwork”. The exhibit features the work of 14 women artists who are also mothers. A wide range of media including photography, painting, installation, sculpture, and video are used to explore the complexity of motherhood. An artist roundtable discussion will be held at 137 East Avenue, Saturday May 1st at 2 p.m. Joan Saab, Assistant Professor of Humanities, University of Rochester, will be the moderator of the panel which is co-sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender and Women's Studies.

IRISH CEILI DANCE
IRISH CEILI DANCE MAY 8TH Rochester, NY--The Boland School of Traditional Irish Dance in conjunction with the Celtic Music Society of East Rochester High School will be hosting an Irish Ceili on Saturday, May 8th, 6 P.M. at East Rochester High School, 200 Woodbine Avenue. This family friendly event will include live performances by the Celtic Music Society, East Rochester’s traditional Irish music ensemble, as well as exhibition dances by the Boland School Irish Dancers. In true Ceili fashion, attendees will also have the opportunity to learn various Irish ceili dances, as the Ceili caller leads this Irish style square dance. Refreshments will be available for purchase and dance instruction will be provided. Come celebrate Irish culture with live music, dancing and fun for the whole family! Admission cost is $5 with a $20 family maximum and children age 5 and younger are free! Tickets are available at the door or at the Irish Import Shops on Ridge Road in Greece and in Pittsford Plaza. Mother/Child/Art Exploration
Sunday, May 16th from 2 to 4 p.m. mothers and children are invited to use the artwork to examine their relationships together during the Mother/Child Art Exploration at Rochester Contempoary, 137 East Avenue. The artwork will serve as a catalyst for informal discussions and questions about the dynamics between mothers and children. Because of the nature of some of the artwork, this event may not be suitable for children under 12.
