There have been many famous lawyers in the movies and on TV, from Atticus Finch to Ally McBeal, but in this article we’re going to be looking at some real people, who you’re bound to recognize, but probably didn’t know they were able to practise law!
John Cleese – This British comedic actor known as the star of the tv show Fawlty Towers and from his work with Monty Python has studied law at Cambridge University. Known for his oddball humor, he’s a legend of comedy but who knew he was a lawyer?
Greg Giraldo – The late comedian was a highlight of Comedy Central Roasts, but he wasn’t always a successful stand-up comedian, travelling from city to city to entertain comedy clubs filled with fans. Before hitting the road, and releasing comedy albums, Greg Giraldo was an attorney who graduated from Harvard Law School.
Ben Stein – Former host of the comedy game show Win Ben Stein’s Money, and character actor / comedian who has appeared on numerous shows and in movies, Ben Stein is also – you guessed it – an attorney! He graduated from Yale in 1970.
Abraham Lincoln – One of the most famous Presidents in history, and known primarily for his time in office, Lincoln did a lot with his life before his presidency. He served time in the militia. At the age of 23, Lincoln purchased a store with a partner, however he sold his share to run for office. He served as a prairie lawyer. His most famous case was a murder case, where a witness testified to seeing it happen in the moonlight, however upon referring to a Farmer’s Almanac, Lincoln was able to establish that due to the actual position of the moon, the witnesses statement wasn’t credible. Oh, and don’t forget about the Civil War. Lincoln was a very busy guy.
Barack Obama – Before being elected as president of the most powerful country on earth, Barack Obama attended Harvard Law School. For his second year there, he was made editor of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. He has taught at University Of Chicago Law for 12 years. From 1992 to 1996 as a lecturer. From 1996 until 2004, however, he was made a senior lecturer and he taught constitutional law.
In all fairness, you may have known a few of these already, but the fact is that most people don’t realize these famous people are also lawyers, regardless of whether they’re known for telling jokes or for leading armies into battle. Next time you need a good accident lawyer, you know who to call!
