Destiny can mean different things to different people. What does human destiny mean to you? Different people are more opinionated about this than others, some prefer to simply not even think about it. Some of the common responses are things like destiny being the path we’re meant to take, or what you’re meant to be doing. When you have a goal in mind and you’re giving everything you’ve got to chase that goal, it can feel like it is your destiny to achieve it, but does that take away from the credit you deserve for all the hard work? The term human destiny implies that there is some perfect state for us to achieve as a planet. Do you think there is a human destiny for us to fulfill, some giant plan in place that we’re constantly striving towards? Was this all “meant to be”, or just a happy accident for us?

Looking to Darwin’s theories of evolution, it would suggest that rather than there being a destiny or fate for us, where we are and where we are heading as a planet is a direct result of us adapting to what has happened in the past. That is to say, rather than having a set path to follow, instead we are making up the path as we go, based on many factors.

A lot of people won’t have an answer when you ask them their opinion on destiny, at least not immediately. It is not something that everyone thinks about often, however there are others who strongly believe in destiny. It can make it easier to deal with tough times, if you have the belief that everything happens for a reason. If you discount human destiny, it is difficult to console yourself by thinking that whatever happened, happened for a reason. The purpose of this text was not to sway your opinion on the subject, but rather to open a door to you. You can enter this door and continue to think about destiny and what it means to you. If it is something that is difficult to think about, don’t worry – that just means you have an open mind.
