Playing Field Poetry Reading The Rochester Contemporary presents a poetry reading to celebrate "The Playing Field: an installation by Mary Giehl" which remains on display through August 31, 2002 at the Gleason Works Atlantic Avenue parking lot, located between Norwood St. and Anderson Ave. Applying her creativity to a seldom-used parking lot, Giehl made the lot come to life by means of cast aluminum and concrete figures of children enjoying 'America's favorite pastime.' Adding to the ambiance, Mary worked with a group of young people from St. Joseph's Villa as they created silhouette representations of themselves that serve as 'spectators' for the baseball game. To commemorate the transformation of the parking lot into a baseball diamond, Thom Ward, Sarah Freligh and Daniel Donaghy will be on hand July 10 at 7pm at 137 East Avenue to share some of their poems about summer, sports and childhood.
