Lecture "Peace Begins Now: Engaged Spirituality and Social Change"
"Peace Begins Now: Engaged Spirituality and Social Change" On Thursday, March 20 there will be a public lecture and discussion featuring Sulak Sivaraksa, 1993 and 1994 Nobel Peace Prize nominee and 1995 recipient of the Right Livelihood Award (the Alternative Nobel Prize) for his vision, activism and spiritual commitment in the quest for democratic, indigenous and sustainable models of social change. As an internationally recognized Thai social critic and Buddhist peace activist, Sulak has forged alliances and networks among people from many walks of life--academics, laborers, farmers, activists, civil servants, and even the business community--dedicated to the building of an egalitarian, inclusive, and compassionate society. Mark your calendars for March 20, 7:00 PM at the Visual Studies Workshop Auditorium, 31 Prince Street, Rochester. ($5 suggested donation for admission). This event co-sponsored by the Rochester Zen Center and Rochester Chapter of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship promises to result in a lively and timely discussion. You are also cordially invited to dinner and conversation with Sulak at Rochesterís Frank Lloyd Wright House on Wednesday, March 19 at 5:30 PM. Chinese fare, $40 per person. Please RSVP by Friday March 14 at (585) 224-3587. (This fundraising dinner is being held to help cover expenses for the Thursday evening lecture.)
