Affinity Group Medic Training
** Affinity Group Medic Training ** Reserve a spot by calling me at: 342-6851 or e-mailing me at: chrispowers@hotmail.com The training is scheduled to begin at noon on Sunday, March 16 at the University of Rochester, room to be announced. Reply to me by Saturday, March 9, preferably by phone. There will be a sliding scale payment of $10-25 depending on ability to pay and whether one attends only the first half of the training (which is self-care) or stays for the second half (which is to be an affinity group medic). (8+ hours: 1 whole day or two 4-hour sessions). Space is limited to 20 people (dependant upon whether or not I have help. I if I have no help, the class should be much smaller, by help I mean an experienced medic who can keep an eye on folks who are practicing.) Street Medics can't be everywhere all the time. Affinity Group Medics (AGMs) are so very needed in this movement of break-away snake marches and midnight direct actions. Affinity groups should consider having at least two people go through this training. Knowing how to treat people you know when they are hurt and being treated in the streets by someone you know is an awesome form of direct action. In this training we teach the *basic* skills and knowledge to work in the streets as AGMs, including: basic first aid (from scrapes to broken bones and calling 911 for emergencies), weather-related injuries, chemical weapons treatments, affinity group structure, AGM field tactics, health and safety, and more! We use LOTS of role-plays and practical scenarios. This is a hands-on workshop with lots of information, very important for ALL affinity groups. (NOTE: The AGM training is *not* a Street Medic training - that takes twice as long, but *basic* is where everybody needs to start).
Join a Candlelight Vigil Or Start Your Own
Join a Candlelight Vigil Or Start Your Own Sunday, March 16 at 7PM citizens around the globe will be holding candlelight vigils for peace. To find out about the one nearest you, or to plan one in your own neighborhood, please visit http://www.globalvigil.org. Hundreds have already been planned, but hundreds more are needed. TrueMajority, MoveOn.org, and the Win Without War coalition, together with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and many faith-based organizations, are calling this vigil, and we need your help. Beginning in New Zealand, this will be a rolling wave of candlelight gatherings that will quickly cross the globe. It's up to you to make this happen. We're hoping that thousands of small groups around the world will be inspired to come together and stand for peace. It's time for the world to come together in this moment of darkness and rekindle the light of reason -- and of hope. It's time to renew our commitment to building a positive world for our children. With your help, we will see the first candlelight vigil to sweep around the globe on the evening of March 16th. Together, we will lead the nations of the world away from an unnecessary war and toward a peaceful and prosperous future. This is a key moment in history. Be a part of it.
