- Fall Wildflowers
- 10:00 AM Sue Baglow , Frank Crombe, and Janet Laird. Hand lens helpful. Thousand Acre Swamp. All hikes are offered as a public service by volunteers for the Thousand Acre Swamp Sanctuary. They are free and open to the public. Hikes begin in the sanctuary parking lot, located in Penfield on Jackson Road between Atlantic Avenue and Plank Road, opposite Penfield Center Road. The driveway is adjacent to Penfield Volunteer Ambulance. Please be prompt. For information, contact Shirley Shaw (585) 385-3907. - ANNUAL PICNIC AND EVENING PROGRAM
- 3:00 p.m. Come at 3:00 to enjoy the sanctuary trails for fall flowers, insects, and birds. There will be games for the children and activities for the adults. A picnic supper will begin about 5:00. (Note the earlier time so that children will be able to stay for the evening program.) Bring your own table service, a dish to share for 8-10 people and a card table, if possible. Watch for more details in the September Tanager and on the web site. Plan to stay for the evening program, "The Buzz About Bees", starting about 6:30. Michael Kopicki, an apiarist and landscape designer, will speak about the care of his 20 beehives, and his experiment with bumblebees as an alternate pollinator for greenhouses. He will bring a live hive and will discuss the social activities of bees, and the gathering of pollen and nectar. Chairperson: Brenda Goodfriend, 383-8363 Co-chairperson: Karen Wolf.
