- JOEL & ALISON PLYS 2nd Annual BALBOA WORKSHOP WEEKEND
- Sun Jan 11: Bal 3, BalSwing 3 & 4, Teachers Choice JOEL & ALYSON PLYS! We’re thrilled to be bringing Joel & Alison back to Rochester for our 2nd annual Balboa weekend! They are known internationally for their lively & expert dance instruction - their charisma, energy, and clear & entertaining teaching style make for a fun, positive dance experience! Whether you’re brand new to Bal - or you’ve been working on it for a while and are eagerly awaiting J&A’s return – this weekend is for you! BALBOA! A swing-era dance that originated in Southern California, Balboa is enjoying a huge resurgence among Swing dancers. Done in closed position with easy smooth footwork, Bal connects you with your partner and captures the lilt of the music, whatever its speed. You can do it relaxed and just groove, or throw in variations & syncopations. Best of all it works for music that is way too fast for regular swing dancing, allowing dancers at any level to calmly dance to blazingly fast tempos with ease! And during a dance, you can go back & forth between your regular swing dancing & your Bal. It’s truly a fun & rewarding dance…>“Pure” Balboa, the orginal dance, is done entirely in closed position with footwork variations. >In “Bal-Swing,” partners open up to allow for breakaways, swing turns and other variations.
