Dining Out In Rochester, NYGreek
Olives Restaurant. 50 State Street, Pittsford, NY 14534. 585-381-3990. Google Map. Olives is a little over priced, hard to find, and the ambience does not suggest fine dining--it is located in the noisy basement of another business. With that said, it is one of the best Greek restaurants in Rochester. It's noisy ambience and sometimes amateur service creates a very casual and mostly enjoyable dining experience. It is popular during the lunch hour with women for some unknown reason. There is no reason why males wouldn't enjoy the lunch menu. If you have eaten at family run Greek restaurants in Europe and enjoyed the experience, you will also enjoy eating at Olives. Try their specials which are listed on a blackboard near the kitchen. The food is prepared with authenticity and is nicely displayed on the plates. Their feta cheese is excellent. Olives creates a very nice béchamel sauce which is used on their Mousaka and Pastitsio. We enjoyed Olive's Souvlaki at lunch. Over several visits and trying something different each time, we enjoyed everything we were served. After dinner, go for a walk along the Erie canal. For an after dinner coffee, visit Starbucks just over the bridge and a couple of blocks away. There are also ice cream parlors along the same side of the canal as Olives.
